My boyfriend is Scottish and embraces and celebrates his heritage. I’m Scottish, as well, but not like he’s Scottish!! He dresses the part, has a family crest tattoo, and belongs to a community that gathers for festivals all over the United States. This year, the 50th Stone Mountain Highland Games and Scottish Festival is the target of our fall tour.
So we know where we are going and what we will be doing for three days, but then what? Well, we’ve been looking at Tennessee as a possible retirement state, so why not do a little scouting while we’re there? And there’s no way I would get so close to where my son is stationed without planning a little detour, so down and into South Carolina we go! Flying into Atlanta and heading home from South Carolina gives us a field of opportunity to create our Along the Way Bouquet!
The festivities begin at Stone Mountain on October 14th for three days of highland game events, clan connections, musical entertainment, and more! Scottish fiddling to Scottish falconry and everything in between! It will be a wonder to see how much of it we can take in in just 3 days!
tartan; kilt; bagpipes;
While I’m sure there is a lot more to explore in Georgia, building our bouquet calls us into Tennessee! And while Tennessee is the heart of the country music scene, the breadth of our interest takes us into the lungs of the state in search of breath – those stunning views that take your breath away, hiking trails that bring it back, and of course those fragrant whiffs we add to our bouquet along the way…
Looking into our adventure, I’ve mapped us through Look Out Mountain in Chattanooga to explore Ruby Falls and Rock City. From there, we will stop and smell the roses at my sister’s equestrian operation in the friendly city of Athens, and we are sure to be delighted as we pass through the Gardens of Sunshine Hallow along the way…
On to our destination communities in Farragut and Knoxville….
